My two cents...
A great interview with Dieter Rams. Ultimately, it is important to know that Design (particularly industrial design) in the 20th century was about making things to drive the modern promise of capitalism; consumption of product drives a better society. Design today is still concerned with the betterment of the world. However, in our current tenure that means understanding what we should not make.
Design is a dematerialising practice as much as, if not more than, it is a materialising one.
