Rodney Fitch (1938-2014)

Alex File

Welcome to the first blog post of the new, revamped and relaunched Design Snip!

Sadly, we start the blog with a great loss. Rodney Fitch, a true great in the history of British design, died yesterday (20th October 2014) after his long battle with cancer.

Rodney was the founder of Fitch design and was a true pioneer in the development of authentic, seamless, emotionally connected retail environments and experiences.

Design Week, Creative Review, The Drum, and more have published heartfelt articles and tributes to this much loved member of the design community.  His family are building up a record on the archive section of his personal site — www.rodneyfitch.com/archive — it is a catalogue of a life dedicated to the consumer, dedicated to designing meaningful experiences and creating a better world.

I always felt that I had a mission in life to deliver to ordinary people better places to shop. I have little interest in Issey Miyake or haute couture design. The thing that really turns me on is working for Woolworth’s, Marks and Spencer and Boots stores - which touch everyone’s life.
